Who We Are
At Mustard Seed Ranch, we believe every child deserves to know they are deeply loved, wonderfully made, and created for a purpose.
We provide a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered home where children can heal, grow, and step into the fullness of who God created them to be.
What Makes Us Different
Mustard Seed Ranch is more than a residential program—it’s a transformational journey.
We walk alongside children who have experienced trauma, instability, or crisis, offering consistent care, compassion, and community.
Our Approach Is Built on Three Pillars:
-
ROOTED IN TRUTH & LOVE
Children are grounded in biblical identity, consistency, and unconditional love. -
RESTORED THROUGH HEALING & COMMUNITY
Healing takes place in safe relationships, with support from trauma-informed caregivers and professional services.
-
RENEWED WITH PURPOSE & HOPE
Children are equipped to step into their God-given future with confidence and skills.
We serve children ages 5–17 who have experienced significant emotional, relational, or environmental challenges. These may include trauma, family instability, or loss.
Who We Help
Our children benefit from:
Structured daily routines and consistent care
Trauma-informed therapeutic support

We welcome referrals from families, churches, schools,

Our Beliefs
Our work is grounded in the unchanging truths of God’s Word. These seven declarations guide how we care for each child—helping them discover who they are, how deeply they are loved, and the hope-filled future God has for them.
These Foundational Truths - which we call Our Seven Roots - guide everything we do.
-
Romans 8:38–39
Nothing can separate you from God’s love. No matter what happens, no matter what you’ve done or what’s been done to you, His love never changes. You don’t have to earn it—it’s freely given. You are fully known, fully accepted, and fully loved by the One who created you.
-
Genesis 1:27
You are a reflection of God. He made you with care and intention—every part of who you are is by design. No matter where you come from or what you’ve been through, your life carries deep value and purpose. You were made to love, create, think, and care—just like Him. That means you are worthy of kindness, respect, and love, and so is every person around you.
-
Deuteronomy 31:8
God is always with you. In your hardest moments, when you feel unseen, forgotten, or afraid, He has not left you. He walks beside you, strengthens you, and holds you close. You don’t have to carry your burdens alone — He is your refuge and strength.
-
Ephesians 2:10
God didn’t just create you—He created you for something good. Your life has meaning, and God has a plan for you. Even when you don’t see it yet, He is preparing you for good works that will bring hope, joy, and love to others. The things that make you unique—your talents, interests, and experiences—are all part of how God will use you in the world.
-
John 16:13
You don’t have to figure out life on your own. God’s Spirit is always with you, guiding, teaching, and helping you make the right choices. When you feel lost, uncertain, or afraid, you can trust that God is leading you. He speaks through His Word, through prayer, and through the people He places in your life to encourage you.
-
Colossians 3:13
Because of Jesus, you are completely forgiven—loved and accepted just as you are. And because you’ve received grace, you can share that same grace with others. You can choose forgiveness, kindness, and compassion, even when it’s hard.
-
2 Corinthians 5:17
Your past does not define you—God does. Because of Jesus, you have a fresh start. No mistake, failure, or regret can separate you from His love. When you follow Him, He makes you new from the inside out, shaping you into the person He created you to be. Each day is another chance to walk in His grace and grow into who He’s calling you to be.
These truths aren't just words.
We live them, speak them, and build upon them every day as we walk alongside children on their journey toward healing and wholeness.
Our Story
What began as a calling became a community movement.
In 2006, Rex and Julianne Buckner followed God's call to build a Christ-centered home for children in need. With no land or funding—only faith—they launched what would become Mustard Seed Ranch.
Volunteers, donors, and churches rallied together. In 2009, the first homes opened.
Today, the Ranch spans 113 acres of Middle Tennessee countryside and includes five homes, a trauma center, barns, and more—offering safety, belonging, and hope to children in crisis.
